About the artist

Marco Mezzacappa is an Italian painter from Rome who brings together classical painting and a contemporary visual language. He studied law and worked as an illustrator within the European underground music scene before devoting himself fully to painting. Drawing inspiration from 16th- and 17th-century art, graphic art and alternative comics, his work moves between figuration and abstraction, combining chiaroscuro, rich textures and geometry. At ORIGIN 01, he presents Small Portrait – Aperture 2, in which a preserved lock of hair symbolises human presence and memory. In dialogue with abstract planes and black bands, it explores what new possibilities can emerge from the traces of the past.
